Life Update!

//So much has happened in the last 6 months since I have started this blog, and ultimately resulted in my long absence. The main reason would be that after my fiance and I got engaged last August we found out a few months later we were expecting!!

//He proposed at this amazing waterfall in Upper Michigan called Tahquamenon Falls and it was absolutely perfect.

//So I have no been doing a lot of this (sitting around) just letting my stomach get bigger and bigger. We just made it to 27 weeks and as the weeks are speeding by we are scrambling to get things prepared and in order for this little boy to arrive in July. We couldn’t be more excited!

//I do have this blanket I knit as proof that I haven’t been completely lazy while sitting around, but I also am fortunate enough to have a job that I can knit at during downtime. Who knows without that I may have never finished this in time! But I love the color it’s a really great olive green color, and the pattern was one I found on Ravelry that was perfect for my beginner status as a knitter. Previous projects mostly included scarfs. Maybe eventually I can work my way up to some cute baby boy sweaters. Arms and shaping are intimidating though!

/So as these next few months progress I hope to get back into the swing of blogging and keeping this space a little bit more up to date. I have been working on getting my Etsy back up and running as well so keep an eye out for new things popping up in there all the time. www.etsy.com/shop/Red3lephant

For those that may still be following along with this little blog of mine THANK YOU!  I hope within the next few weeks as well now that Wisconsin weather is finally starting to warm back up to get out and get moving again and taking some photographs along the way. I’ve also got quite a few home projects and baby projects coming up as well. We just moved and lots of DIYs are needed to make this space feel a little more homey, so I will be sure to share them with all of you in case someone else is in need of a few new project ideas!

50 Little Things

Image

//50 little things to introduce myself to you, hope you enjoy.

1.How many pets do you own? 3; 2 ferrets Hanklyn and Uecker and 1 Dog Nora

2. What’s your least favorite season? Winter, winters in Wisconsin are brutal most of time fall is a lot more my style

3. Do you prefer to text or call? Text! I am absolutely awkward on the phone

4. Morning or night? Night is my favorite. I wake up really early for work so nights are my time to just relax and unwind.

5. Do you like tacos? Mmmmm… Yes!

6. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Growing up I was more of an extrovert, but over the years I have definitely become more of an introvert. Large social situations can be kind of stressful.

7. What’s your favorite desert? Cheesecake, or loads of frozen yogurt

8. Do you enjoy walks? Yes! I don’t currently have my dog living with me and that is the one thing I miss about having her here everyday was being forced out the door everyday to walk. Now it seems life takes over and there is no time. But I have started running and that is just as nice.

9. Are you a frequent user of Facebook? Yes probably a little too much

10. Do you watch animated shows still? I do, lots of King of the Hill and The Simpsons are played in my house, but I do live with 2 boys.

11. Can you roll your tongue? Yup!

12. What’s your “lucky” number?  Growing up I always said my lucky number was 13; currently I don’t really have one. Something to think about.

13. Are you scared of anything? Snakes!! I love most animals and creatures, but snakes terrify me.

14. Big mac or big whopper? Whopper junior!

16. Are you fond of romantic novels?  I do read my fair share of chick lit. I work at a telephone relay service so I can read in between phone calls at work, so I always have a book on hand.

17. Fruitloops or cocopops? I love chocolate, cocopops all the way!

18. Would you eat a live spider for one million dollars? Depends on the spider, daddy long leg sure why not, a million dollars would pay off a lot of student debt and buy a lot of art supplies.

19. Are you a heavy drinker? Nope. I am from Wisconsin so I love the occasional beer or glass of wine but my heavy drinking days were left behind in college along with the hangovers.

20. Would you forgive someone for cheating? It would be very hard to, it all depends on the relationship and how the cheating came about.

21. Are you superstitious? I believe in karma, but I am not overly superstitious

22. Have you seen A Clockwork Orange? Nope, I have started it a few times but have never finished it. I am notorious for having a short attention span during movies.

24. Are you easily distressed? Yes, I get stressed out very easily. Luckily I have my boyfriend JD around to calm me down and bring me back to reality. Which he is great at.

25. Do you believe in aliens?  I believe that the universe is so magnificent and huge and I wouldn’t rule it out. But who knows!

26. If you were the last person alive besides one other person you get to chose, who would it be? Hands down my boyfriend JD! He’s so fun to be around, and would probably be key in keeping me sane if I was the last person alive.

27. Dogs or cats? Dogs! I love my norwegian elkhound Nora.

28. Are you a grumpy person? I have my fare share of grumpy moments. As I said before I let stress get to me very easily and this doesn’t aid in me having a pleasant mood. But for the most part I would like to think I am a generally happy, friendly person.

32. Do you like cotton candy? I have a massive sweet tooth, so yup!

33. Would you ever use a dating site? A long time ago I did once, and do not get the appeal  Glad Its something I don’t need to worry about though, to each their own.

Dress DIY

DSC_0417

//Over the weekend I had a little bit of rare down time and while cleaning up the massive pile of laundry laying on my bedroom floor I stumbled across this plain gray dress.  I wore it the other day and happened to get a nice grease stain on the bottom hem of the dress while lifting my bike up onto our bike rack. I wasn’t even going to attempt to get the grease out and  thought instead a DIY was in order.   It is a dress I love to just throw on in the summer so with a stencil and some paint I think I saved it.

Essentially just took a piece of a pizza box and cut out a triangle.

For the paint I used Speedball Water soluble block printing ink

//Not quite finished yet but hopefully in the next day or so I can get it finished up. I wasn’t so sure about the pattern at first but after putting some of the triangles closer together and more sporadic, and I am starting to warm up to it.  I think once it is completely done I am going to really like it.  I am always a sucker for pattern overload.  Overall the process was really simple, which means is the perfect DIY!

  1. Pick out solid color garment ( this would work great on t-shirts, tanks or skirts as well )
  2. Gathered supplies: Firm bristled paint brushes, Ink that can hold up to  the wash, cardboard
  3. Used an exact-o knife to cut out the triangle
  4. Using the firm brush I ended up having to use more of a stippling motion when painting it otherwise it was pulling the fabric up and messing where I had the stencil laid out.
  5. Once completely finished my plan is to set the ink with an iron. Just turn the garment inside out so you’re not ironing right onto the ink.
  6. Wash and wear! 🙂

I’ll make sure to toss a picture on the blog once I have the entire dress done for you all to see.

Devil’s Lake State Park

>One thing I absolutely love is being outdoors. I try to get outside during the summer any chance I can because everyone in Wisconsin knows the nice weather doesn’t last for long. While the nice weather took forever to get here this year, it is now absolutely gorgeous out. Vacations are rare but the other week was one of those rare times when my boyfriend and I packed up the car with all the necessities and headed an hour and a half away to a Devil’s Lake State Park. Camping is one of my ideal vacations complete with sleeping under the stars and a nice roaring fire at night. Here are some snapshots from our week away.

So many scenic lookouts, once you finally climb to the top

I kind of became obessed with getting the perfect picture of these hawks that were circling around the lake. Not easy, and mostly just ended up as black specs in every photo.

Ending the night with a S’more!

It was one of the most relaxing camping trips, and our campsite just perfect. On an extremely hot day we took a little side trip to Parfrey’s Glen close by, so more pictures to come soon.
